Group Project

1. Today many TV shows and advertisements try to look amateurish or "homegrown" to emulate what is often seen on the Web. Do you think professional production values will continue to drop, or do you think amateur user-generated content will get better over time? WHY??

We don't think media production will stoop down to individual productions. There will always be movies that have this strategy such as (Paranormal Activity, Blare Witch or Clover Field), however, it will never take over all media. It will never be the main way of making movies. We believe it's just another way to convince the audience to buy a product or service, as well as intriguing people to watch movies and television.

2.
Find a news article and write down tags you would use to define what the article is about. Now goto Digg or another tagging site and see how others have tagged it. What did you learn from the differences or similarities in tagging?

New York Times article
Live Analysis; United States versus Canada

Tags: Olympics, Hockey, Sports, Canadian Upset, US, Canada, Sport's Media, Men's Hockey
Digg: Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, hockey, Jaromir Jagr, Men's hockey, Mike Babcock, ron wilson, Russia, Sidney Crosby, Sweden, United States.

The Digg website consisted of more specific details than our tags. We focused more on the sport and the different aspects of hockey, instead of the Olympics in general.

3.Why is transparency such an important concept in the Social Media world? Is it MORE or LESS important in the offline world? Why?

It is important for transparency to be involved in the Social Media world because its what sustain the whole social media or user generated world. If people weren't ready to expose themselves on Facebook or Twitter, than those types of social media would be non-existent. Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Youtube rely on people to express themselves and their opinions. If people slowly stopped being transparent then the social media would feel the "domino effect" and eventually fail. As a group, we believe that is just as important to be transparent online as well as offline. Being transparent online allows you to express and connect yourself to multiple people at a time. However, having transparency offline allows more personal interaction as well as creates a more personal relationship. Overall, we think that people have a tendency to be more transparent online than offline. However, we think that there is no distinct reason for transparency to be more important than one another.

"The Persuaders" Questions

"The Persuaders" begins by questioning the increase in the amount of advertising we typically encounter in our daily lives. How would you assess the amount of advertising you see? Too much? Too little? Just right? In your view, what difference does it make to know that people today see much more advertising in their daily lives than people 20 or 30 years ago?

From the first form of advertising, it has developed and changed dramatically. In earlier times advertisements were simple and straight forward. If the same advertisement were used today, the product or service would be out of business instantly. Today's advertising agency's are trying to keep up with the new technology and continue to try and make their product or service stand out. I thought it was interesting how advertising has become such a science. The message, words, pictures, and music are more important that the product or services. It was interesting to hear how people's opinions change when a word is renovated. This is what I believe is going to be the focus of advertisements in the future.

Where are things headed in the future? What are some possible scenarios that could play out as far as the direction that future persuaders may take their marketing techniques.

Personally I think technology is going to allow advertisement to excel and change the world. Technology is now allowing for magazines to be 3-D and is helping people connect with each other across the world in a personal way. However, I think that advertisement companies will need to focus on the verbal message. Like the man who survey's people to find out if a slogan or characteristics in a advertisement are believable and beneficial. I think advertisements should have a better look at what the people believe what messages or words are trustworthy or believable; because no matter how technological advertisements excel the people are whats most important.

Analysis of Digitial Media II

Watching the second half of the film, I wasn't sure whether or not I liked or disliked the new technology. One main topic the video discussed was the topic of technology in teaching. Personally I think to that technology is forcing teachers use technology, as well as, the teacher are forcing students to use the technology. For example, today a research essay could take up to a week or two to write. Back when we didn't have technology there was no such thing to write a research paper in a week, it would take weeks. I wrote an article on the whether or not technology such as individual computers was beneficial. There were mixed views. Personally I think that it does allow student to gain more knowledge at home, however, it takes away from the principles of learning. In other words, we are able research a topic on Google both in school and at school. However, when I was younger I was taught ways to find information through books and to compare to get trust worthy information. Looking back to third grade I was learning how to write cursive, now it seems that students are learning how to type.

It's crazy to see how fast we adapt to new technology as well as become so dependent on it. For example, Facebook, in less than 7 months the member number increased dramatically. Today, it's seems as if people can't live without it. It seems as if it's there only way to contact other human beings. Which is scary, because like someone said in the movie " we are gifted of our ability to verbally and physically communicate with people, we should not forget about it." That quote really opened up my eyes. I think that technology is taking away a lot of characteristics a human being has to offer. For example, I'm a bubbly person and it's very hard to express that in a text or email.

Overall I thought this was an awesome video! It's really makes you step back and look at how life and the world has changed and developed around us.

Analyze of the film, Digitial Nation

Before watching this video, two days ago I was frustrated with my phone. It was broken or not working I was just tired of being attached to it. I was angry of how dependent I was to my phone, it seemed as if I couldn't walk two steps away from it. This incident made me realize of how the world of technology has changed and overall has changed the world. It was funny how the video touched upon this aspect. The reporter said if we lose or don't respond to our connections (email, phone, etc.) that the people on the other side are disruptive or lost. In other words, if I ignore my phone all day from calls and text message, the person that sending the message get worried or frantic. It's more like people expect a quick response. Often I feel like I want to escape this crazy world, however, I can't. Which is scary!

Although we have a decision to decide whether or not were going to use a piece of technology or application, I believe that the world forces us to use it. For example, movies, just 5 years ago the invention of DVD's came to world distinguishing VCR's. For the person, lets say for instance a women, loves VCR's or has no problem using VCR's is forced to buy a DVD player and DVD movies; due to the force of technology. Meaning if the women wanted to watch a movie, however, this movie was only on DVD forces her to buy and use the new technology.

Just from the first 20 min of the film I'm wondering myself of how big of an impact technology has. It really has me thinking not only about myself, but about the future the world holds. I'm curios and enthused to see what the film talks about in the second half.

Assignment 2: Content Collage

The medium I decided to use was the Blackberry. Within the screen of the Blackberry I posted some of the characteristics and content of the blackberry. The background picture in the screen is a picture of the world representing the mobility and accessibility. The collage also includes photos of a camera, twitter, email, Face-book, gps, videos, and apps all representing the different contents of the Blackberry. I also included the picture of the mouth representing the verbal communication from the Blackberry. Although the picture of man running is unique in different, I really wanted to show speed and the fast capability in the Blackberry. Also, letters and numbers are included in this blog to represent the basic functions within the blackberry.

Overall, I think this collage really represents the characteristics and content that a Blackberry holds.
